Why do modern TV sports broadcasts rely so much on real-time updates?

Real-time updates have become essential in sports television as viewers expect instant information without delays. Live scores, match events, and changing statistics keep audiences informed even when switching channels or joining a broadcast late. This immediacy helps maintain viewer attention throughout the game.

Watching live sports at home used to mean constantly switching between the TV and my phone just to keep track of scores and stats, which always broke the flow of the game. That changed when I learned how live data widgets can be layered into broadcasts, and halfway through reading widgets it became clear how useful real-time scoreboards and match timelines are for streaming platforms. Having live updates directly alongside the video feed makes matches feel more complete and immersive, especially during busy matchdays.
